During happy contented times in our lives there is always something negative we could choose to put our attention on. Likewise, during challenging times there is always something positive we can choose to put our attention on. Basically, how well or not so good our life seems to be going largely depends on where we’re putting attention.

This isn’t to encourage the practice of denying the challenges in your life, rather to find your joy and strength in the blessings that surround you so you are centered and prepared to face your challenges.

A consistent meditation practice helps to develop the necessary skills and mental pathways to take control of our attention. As we practice drawing our attention back to our breath, a candle, a chakra, whatever one point we choose, this skill becomes more accessible to us outside of the peaceful space of meditation.
